The Organisation of the Federation

The Federation consists of 11 clubs covering all areas of the UK and currently has over 7,000 active athletes including several in their 70s and 80s. The BMAF promotes many national championships annually including track and field, road running, cross country and indoor. The area clubs are involved in local leagues and in organising other races suitable for all standards. Competition is in 5-year age groups i.e. 35-39, 40-44, with no upper age limit.

The BMAF was a leading member country in the formation of the World Association of Veteran (now Master) Athletes and later, the European VAA. Our members compete in the European and World Championships.

Britain hosted the XIII World Veterans Track & Field Championships in 1999, simultaneously at Gateshead, Jarrow and Chester-le-Street stadiums. It was the largest track and field championships ever staged in the British Isles with around 6,000 competitors from 74 countries participating.
